Creating the Character & Story

The Character

I haven't talked about the story or character of my game much on this blog due to the heavy research into theory throughout the project, although I feel the story is an important aspect which can separate a game i terms of quality.

A great example of this, is within Thomas was Alone:

Thomas was Alone was narrated by Danny Wallace, a voice actor and author, having this form of polish and professionalism creates a difference with the portrayal and image of the game.

The story of Destony is actually inspired by a friend of mine named Tony who passed away in 2011 in a bus accident. he was always such a positive person and I felt like paying homage to him with this game. This is why it is called Destony.

The main story put simply, is about a person who dies in an accident, although is not laid to rest after his death but is called on a mission to help other people push away their negativity and depressing thoughts so that they can see the light and after see they light, they are able to expand their potential until one day they can fulfill their wildest dreams and fulfill their destiny.
Sketches of the main character with different story adaptations.

Different environments according to the different possible character designs.

Alternate stories of the different characters, one of a mail boy who was hit by a bus, and a Train conductor who loses his friend in an accident and is helped by that same friend.

Some simple 3 picture storyboards of the possible story of the game.

These were some further character developments with the story in mind. The dark boxes are meant to be depressed and lacking life and the positive block is mean to be full of energy.
